COVID-19 the economic, social and educational impact

in Northern Syria

The Information Management Unit of Assistance Coordination Unit issued a thematic report in which it monitored the impact of the spread of COVID-19 on the economic, social and educational fields in areas outside the control of the regime within the Syrian Arab Republic in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions caused by the war that has been ongoing for more than ten years. For this study, 101 enumerators participated in the data collection process that covered 64 districts within the governorates of Idleb, Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Al-Hasakeh and Deir ez-Zor. The report includes several sections covering different topics including the impact of COVID-19 on the sources of income, the social impact of the virus which resulted in an increase in the cases of domestic violence and isolation among both, the elderly and persons with disabilities, in addition to its impact on the relationship between IDPs and host community, working conditions of both men and women, and distance learning mechanisms followed during the spread of the virus.
